As one of the world's largest coffee exporters after Brazil and Vietnam, Indonesia serves as an interesting coffee destination with plantations spreading from Papua to Aceh. Coffee beans in Indonesia consist of arabica, robusta and liberica. Indonesian coffee are complex, syrupy, low acidity and typically extremely dense. which makes them ideal for roasting on the darker side. This is largely due to the widespread practice of a traditional processing method unique to Indonesia known as "giling basah". This semi-washed method is known commonly as wet-hulling and nearly all the coffee in the region are processed in this manner. In short, the coffee cherry is allowed to dry on the bean for a short time before being washed and removed, imparting some of the flavors of the pulp and fruit to the bean. The island of Sumatra, produce 75% of specialty grade Arabica coffee comes from the Island of Sumatra Indonesia! Which is also where most of the coffee from Indonesia comes from, ,upwards! Specialty Arabica coffee is Indonesia's most popularly exported product and gained worldwide acknowledgment. This has positioned Indonesia as the 2nd largest specialty Arabica exporter in the world, with 150,000 tons of export per year. Nearly 100 genetic varieties of Arabica coffee have been created since 1699 - some of these include Sumatera Lintong, Sumatera Koerinci, Sumatera Solok Minang, Java Preanger, Java Ijen Raung, Java Estate, Sulawesi Toraja, Papua Wamena and much more. Split Rock coffee beans are 100% authentic indonesian coffee beans. Endulge in indonesian beans in every sip of our split rock coffee.

Coffee Farmers for Split Rock Coffee practice organic farming. An organic farm allows no synthetic chemicals, fertilizers, or pesticides to be used during the cultivation or production processes. An organic farm is managed as the working ecosystem it is, and farmers employ techniques such as composting, terracing, and natural pest control that are often produced on the farm. Most of these techniques are traditional farming methods passed down generation to generation and are more environmentally beneficial because they produce less waste and maintain the natural shade canopy of the tree. Health Benefits; It should be obvious that Organic coffee would be more healthful because it has not been treated with pesticides and chemical fertilizers.... Additionally, coffee has potential health benefits due to its antioxidant content. Organic coffee may help you lose weight by boosting your metabolism.

Split Rock’s coffee buyer started his career as a chef, choosing and combining flavors to create award-winning dishes. Creating a great cup of coffee for all your occasions. Coffees from around the world have flavor compounds that reflect the soil structure and altitude at which they are grown, as well as the water supply, sunlight or shade, and other growing conditions. Some coffee growing regions are known for the distinct body found in the coffees they grow; other areas produce coffees with a citrus acidity, or in rarer cases, fruity overtones. The roasting process needs to also take other qualities into account. Some coffees are soft, with a less dense cell structure, and are best lightly roasted, while others are hard or dense, and dark roasting brings out the flavors in the bean. Our coffee buyer utilizes his culinary and coffee buying experience to create blends that work best at each roast level, carefully testing them to be sure that the flavors are balanced in the final cup. Split Rock coffee blends are sure to please the most discriminating palate. Our Light Roast is 100% Colombian from the Huila (Southern) region of Colombia. The lighter roast style is balanced, rich and brighter in acidity then the dark and medium roasts. This Single Origin coffee is a great example of Colombian coffee. Our Medium Roast is a traditional Breakfast Blend. This blend highlights the body of Strictly High Grown (SHG) Central American, the mild acidity of East African, and the smooth finish of the South American coffees. Medium Roast has notes of sweet chocolate with a dark cherry finish, and makes a great choice for Espresso. Our Dark Roast is reminiscent of a light French Roast. The combination of Central American and Indonesian coffee beans produces a great balance of body and acidity. The beans naturally occurring dark cocoa, and bittersweet chocolate flavors work well with cream or milk. Our decaffeinated coffee beans with the same passion as our caffeinated beans.

We choose our decaffeinated coffee beans with the same passion as our caffeinated beans. The Decaf Dark Roast blend is a rich, deeply roasted mixture of Central American and East African coffee beans, which have been decaffeinated through a traditional process designed to protect the flavor of the high quality beans. The Decaf Dark Roast tastes of cocoa and light lemon citrus with a toasted finish.

Our Medium Roast Blend is a traditional Breakfast Blend. The blend highlights the body of the Strictly High Grown (SHG) Central American, the mild acidity of East African, and the smooth finish of the South American coffees. Medium Roast has notes of sweet chocolate with a dark cherry finish. Coffee beans grown at higher elevations (SHG especially) are typically sought after because the higher elevations mean slower bean development, resulting in more nutrients being delivered to the coffee and therefore a more nutrient-dense bean. More nutrient density means more flavor and healthy organic compounds in the coffee. The higher the elevation, the more labor is typically involved in moving equipment up to the elevations and transporting harvested coffees down to ports for shipping. This results in a slightly higher cost to the farmers but isn’t necessarily reflected in the market price – the higher prices for SHG coffee is instead usually due to the better quality from growing at a higher elevation. This is the same case with the slowing growing process, having fewer crops per year results in less overall volume of coffee being produced, which should in theory drive up prices, but the higher prices are really a reflecting of the higher quality.
